Spring Shedding in Australia: A Simple Grooming Routine for Dogs and Cats
Share
As the weather warms up across Australia, many dogs and cats drop their thicker winter coat. That means fur on the couch, the car seats, your black jeans and pretty much everywhere else. You can't stop shedding, but a simple routine makes it much easier to manage.
Why spring shedding feels so intense
Longer days and warmer temperatures tell many pets it's time to lose their winter undercoat. Double-coated breeds like Huskies, Kelpies, Border Collies and Golden Retrievers, as well as many long-haired cats, can shed heavily for several weeks.
Step 1: Brush little and often
Short, regular brushing works better than one long session. Aim for a few minutes, three to four times a week during peak shedding. Brush in the direction the fur grows and keep sessions calm and positive with a treat at the end.
Step 2: Use a comb that's easy to clean
A comb that clogs quickly turns grooming into a chore. Our Self-Cleaning Pet Grooming Comb lets you press one button to push the collected fur off, so you can keep brushing without picking hair out by hand.
Step 3: Brush outside when you can
On a nice day, groom on the balcony or in the backyard. Loose fur stays outside instead of drifting around the house.
Step 4: Deal with fur on furniture
Even with regular brushing, some fur ends up on sofas, beds and rugs. Our 4-in-1 Pet Hair Removal Brush lifts hair, lint and dust from fabric. It's reusable, with no sticky sheets and no batteries.
Step 5: Wash bedding regularly
Pet beds and throw blankets collect a lot of fur. A quick shake outside, followed by a regular wash, keeps the house fresher.
When to check with your vet
Normal seasonal shedding is gradual and even. If you notice bald patches, red or irritated skin, or constant scratching, it's worth asking your vet.
